Lord Sheik spoke to our members on the evening of Thursday March 7th. During his speech Lord Sheik discussed his work in both the City and in Westminster. Coming from an insurance background he began his career at Sun Alliance before rising to Chairman and Chief Executive of Camberford Law plc. He highlighted the need to strive to be the best at what you do and explained how he had tried to make Camberford Law synonymous with the security industry; an endeavour that paid off when he received 13 insurance awards.
Lord Sheik outlined his principles to achieve success which included honesty and hard work. He cited his ability to seek out niches and to exploit them successfully behind his success in both business and politics. Lord Sheik joined the Conservative party in 2005 and made efforts to expand inclusiveness within the party at the grass roots level, it was this that saw him gain his peerage within 18 months.
Lord Sheik truly is a man of the City. He said that whilst he works in Westminster, his heart is in the City. He even chose to have the title of Baron Sheik of Cornhill conferred upon him reflecting his attachments to the square mile, where he was trained and later worked.
Of the many interests that Lord Sheik has he said that his charitable efforts, under the charity he founded in his father’s name, were the most satisfying.
The committee would like to thank Lord Sheik, his wife and all those who attended the event.
